Where do I get Shroud Wood in Enshrouded?

Shroud Wood comes from trees that grow inside the Shroud, the blue fog areas on the map. Any normal axe can fell them, but trees just outside the fog will give ordinary wood instead. Many guides point to the Shroud in the valley near Braelyn Bridge as a good early spot. Watch the Shroud timer and leave before it runs out.

Where Shroud Wood comes from

Shroud Wood is described in game as the wood of Shroud-infested trees. You get it by chopping trees inside a Shroud area, which the map shows as blue patches. Entering the fog starts the Shroud timer on your screen.

Trees on the very edge of the fog or just outside it may only give normal wood. Walk a little further in, so the tree clearly stands inside the Shroud. Full-sized trees are a better target than bushes and small shrubs.

The material is listed as level 5 content with a stack size of 250. That means you can collect it early, soon after you leave the starting area. Bring enough inventory space, because one trip can fill several slots.

The best early spot and the right tools

Several guides recommend the Shroud in the valley near Braelyn Bridge as an early source. It sits close to the opening areas, so you can reach it with starter gear. Other guides also name the large Shroud north of the starting point.

You do not need a special axe for Shroud trees. A basic axe works, although it takes many hits on a large tree. Upgrading your axe makes each trip shorter and leaves more of the timer for the walk out.

Guides disagree on how many pieces a tree drops, and tree size changes the result. Treat any number you read as a rough estimate rather than a fixed rate. Count your own haul over one timer cycle to plan how many trips you need.

Staying safe in the Shroud

If the Shroud timer reaches zero, your character dies. Leave the fog to reset the timer, then go back in for the next tree. Plan each trip so the walk out fits comfortably inside the remaining time.

  1. Check the map for a blue Shroud area close to a travel point.
  2. Equip your best axe and free up inventory space.
  3. Chop trees well inside the fog, not on its edge.
  4. Leave before the timer runs low and let it reset.
  5. Store the wood at base before starting a long crafting session.

A Fell Curse can shorten your time in the Shroud, which makes wood runs riskier. The Fell Curse guide explains the cure. Enemies also gather in the fog, so the builds guide is useful if fights keep interrupting your chopping.

What Shroud Wood is used for

The first big use is the Glider, crafted at the Workbench with Animal Fur, String and Shroud Spores alongside Shroud Wood. Later gliders at the Carpenter, such as the Advanced, Ghost and Extraordinary Gliders, also need it. Gathering early therefore pays off as soon as you want faster travel.
