How do I unlock the Blast Furnace in Enshrouded?

The Blast Furnace unlocks through the Blacksmith quest "A Blast Furnace For The Blacksmith", which guides say appears once you reach Albaneve Summits. The quest item is the Bellows, taken from the Scavenger Tyrant at the Forge of Obsidia enemy camp. Once you hold the Bellows, the Blacksmith can build the furnace from Fired Brick, Clay, Iron Bars and Sand.

Start the Blacksmith quest

The recipe stays locked until you pick up the quest "A Blast Furnace For The Blacksmith". Current guides say it appears after you enter Albaneve Summits, which asks for a Flame Altar at level 6. If the quest is missing, check that your Blacksmith survivor is rescued and placed at your base.

Albaneve is also where the Coal mine near Rothstep sits. That matters because the finished furnace burns Coal rather than Charcoal. Plan the two trips together so the furnace has fuel the moment it is built.

Take the Bellows from the Forge of Obsidia

The community wiki lists the Bellows as a drop from the Scavenger Tyrant at the Forge of Obsidia enemy camp. Treat it as a boss-style fight with a full set of healing and repaired gear. The recipe unlocks as soon as the Bellows enters your inventory.

An older 2024 Steam thread describes the Bellows as a plain enemy drop. Newer guides describe the forge camp route instead, so follow the quest marker if the two differ. Use the map guide to plan travel points before you go.

Blast Furnace recipe

The furnace is crafted at the Blacksmith's Forge and finishes instantly. Gather everything before the trip home so you can place it right away. Extra furnaces can be crafted at the Blacksmith after the quest is done.

Clay is the item players most often run short of. The Clay location guide covers the deposit near Revelwood landmarks. Fired Brick also uses Clay, so gather more than ten.

What the Blast Furnace smelts

The Blast Furnace makes bars in larger batches and faster than the Smelter by burning Coal. It is the station for Steel and Silver Bars, which later armor and weapons need. Times below come from the community wiki and may shift with patches.

OutputInputsTime
20 Steel Bars20 Iron Ore, 40 Coal10:00
20 Silver Bars20 Silver Ore, 40 Coal10:00
20 Iron Bars20 Iron Ore, 40 Coal5:00
20 Copper Bars20 Copper Ore, 20 Coal3:30
20 Bronze Bars10 Copper Bars, 4 Tin Bars, 10 Coal4:00
20 Glass40 Any Sand, 15 Coal4:30

Some guides quote smaller Coal costs for Steel and Silver, so check the station screen before mining. Gold and Celestium Bars are also made here later in the game. Link the furnace into your workshop with the base design guide.
