Find Snapjaws in Blackmire
Snapjaws are crocodile-like reptiles that stay underwater in Blackmire's mud and tar pits. Bubbles on the surface of a pit usually mean one is waiting below. Blackmire sits beyond Revelwood, so read the Revelwood guide before you head that way.
- Snapjaw Tar Pits, roughly 290 m west of the Blackmire Ancient Spire.
- The swamp basin below the spire, near the broken piers on its north side.
- The ponds just south of the spire.
- The Sunken Ancient City north of the spire, a useful backup spot.
Kill and loot without sinking
Wait on a bank or platform until a Snapjaw surfaces and charges. Open with a bow, then finish it in melee once it is on land. Jump now and then to shake off the slow from mud, tar or water.
Stand on the corpse while you loot so you don't sink into the pit. One guide reports a kill dropping 4 Reptile Hide and 3 Bones. Picking up your first hide unlocks the leather recipe automatically.
Drying Rack recipe and Salt
Reptile Leather is made at the Drying Rack, not a tanning station. The Drying Rack comes from the Hunter, so rescue that survivor first. Each batch takes 1 Reptile Hide and 3 Salt and returns 3 leather after 60 seconds.
Salt is easy to farm at the Egerton Salt Mine west of the Springlands Ancient Spire. Bring back a full stack so Salt never slows the rack. Do not mix it up with Water Reptile Leather, a level 40 material from Veilwater Basin.
